How to care for your rug

  • To prevent gross stuff like dust from settling into the rug fibers’ roots, you should vacuum your rug regularly. For best results, use a vacuum cleaner without a beater brush to prevent damage to the pile and vacuum from different directions, making several passes over the area.
  • The rug might shed fibers at first, but this will diminish over time. If loose threads are bugging you, use scissors to trim them and whatever you do, don’t pull on the threads as this could result in some minor unraveling.
  • Avoid exposing the rug to moisture for a prolonged period of time.
  • Spills happen so if you happen to spill on the rug, hold a cotton cloth under cold tap water, wring it out, then immediately press it over the stain. Leave the cloth in place until it completely dries. And no peeking! If the cloth gets saturated with the coffee, wine or whatever else you’ve spilled, replace it with a fresh cloth or cloths until the stain no longer wets them through. Leave the last cloth in place to dry completely.
  • Since the wool is undyed, it has living, dynamic colors. This means the wool fibers will brighten in color with exposure to sunlight.
  • Our gecko strips mean you don’t need a rug pad. In fact, a rug pad will negate the benefits of these gecko strips, so we recommend you don’t use one.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals to clean or otherwise “treat” the rug, as they may cause damage or fading.

Gecko strips

We took the suction technology gecko’s use to climb walls and created strips that would stick our rug to your floor without using an adhesive. You just have to apply pressure! That means our Gecko Strips can be used over and over again and there’s no residue for you to clean nor will they damage your wood. To use the gecko strips, gently peel back the protective film from the black side of the tape. If you find your Gecko Strips aren’t sticking as well, simply clean them with dish soap and they should be good as new.

Storing after use

If you need to store your rug for any reason, start by placing a cotton blanket larger than the rug on the floor. Place the rug, wool-side down, on top of the blanket, then begin to roll it so that the cotton blanket is protecting the wool, and both are facing outward. Then place your rug in a dry, well-ventilated area as this will help control the rug’s exposure to moisture and can prevent molding. Whatever you do, do not fold or store rug in an airtight plastic bag.
